About Dr. Milbury.
I am a relationship researcher with extensive training in psycho-oncology and behavioral interventions particularly mind-body medicine. My passion is to design and evaluate dyadic interventions to improve the quality of life of cancer patients and their loved ones. I am predominantly interested in designing evidence-based interventions for families facing a poor prognosis and examining mind-body interventions as supportive care strategies. For instance, in my NCI R25T funded work, I designed and pilot-tested a couple-based yoga program for lung cancer patients receiving radiotherapy and their family caregivers. Under my Career Development Award, I am currently conducting a randomized controlled trial to establish the efficacy of this dyadic intervention using a multi-method assessment strategy including subjective, objective and biological outcomes. I now seek to expand this program of research to other cancer populations such as patients with brain tumors and metastatic disease and their family caregivers.
